PANJIM: The State’s daily COVID-19 positivity rate rose to over 20 per cent on Thursday, even though the single-day detection of new cases witnessed a slight drop at 971. On Wednesday, State had recorded 1002 cases at a positivity rate of 17.72 per cent.
The State’s active caseload breached the 4,000-mark and stood at 4,613 on Thursday. The first six days of January, have reported total 3,894 new infections; at a daily average of 649.
The positivity rate which was at 6.25 per cent on January 1, shoot up to 20.46 per cent on Thursday, January 6. So far, January 3 has reported the highest 26 per cent positivity rate.
Of the total 971 cases, 11 have been admitted in the hospital, while rest opted for home isolation with mild symptoms or for being asymptomatic.
In last 24 hours, in all 74 patients were declared recovered while two also succumbed to the infection. The recovery rate continues to drop further from 97 per cent to 95 per cent.
Margao (582) and Panjim (532) are witnessing major jump in daily cases. Both together have 1014 active patients, which is almost 22 per cent of the total active cases.
The State also has 18 active omicron positive patients while one, an eight-year old has been discharged.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government has already put together a plan in place with stage-wise projection. He said necessary steps are being taken to impose stringent measures as recommended by the Expert Committee.
