COVID 3rd wave: Home care guidelines launched for kids

MARGAO: President of Goa Council of Ayurvedic and Allied Systems of Medicines Dr Sneha Bhagwat on Monday launched home care guidelines for children during COVID-19 under the “Goa Ayurvedic Task Force” in the wake of a potential third wave which would mostly affect the children.
Speaking to the media persons, Dr Sneha, along with Dr Reeta Vas, Dr Mahesh Velekar, Dr Dilip Vernekar and others appealed to the parents to avoid depending on home remedies and visit the doctors if the child is tested positive.
“We are expecting the third wave and it has been predicted that the children are most likely to be affected, as the adults have almost vaccinated themselves. In order to tackle the third wave home care guidelines are need of an hour, and hence the Council has prepared full guidelines by taking the inputs from experts of all sectors,” said Dr Sneha.
Their aim is to reach out to every household and to make awareness about the guidelines.
“Preventive measures need to be taken if any symptoms are reported amongst the children,” she stated.
Dr Reeta stated that the vaccination and wearing a mask all time is the only option to keep the virus at bay.
As informed by the Council, these home care guidelines also include mental health, oral and dental hygiene.
As per the guidelines issued by the above Task Force, excessive cry, irritability, refusal to feed, red eyes/rash over the body, fever lasting more than four to five days, and lethargic child are the signs of red alert.
Mild symptoms include running nose, mild fever, sore throat, cough, and gastrointestinal symptoms. While fast breathing, breathlessness, high-grade fever, excessive coughs, vomiting, lethargy, loose motions, refusal of feed are considered as moderate to severe symptoms.
The Task Force has also suggested massage with sesame oil, coconut oil, or oil specified by Ayurvedic doctors should be performed on children daily or at least once a week followed by lukewarm water bath.
