PANJIM: The daily COVID positivity has rate dropped to below 20 per cent for the first time since mid-April. On Tuesday, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) reported 903 cases with the COVID positivity rate now at 19.13 per cent.
However, the daily numbers of cases has jumped back to over 900; after hovering around 600 during the last two consecutive days, dropping from the 963 cases reported on Saturday, the first time the State had seen fewer than 1,000 cases.
The total number of deaths is also on the reducing but still stays above 20, with 22 new deaths reported. Two of these 22 took place on May 25 and May 29 while the remaining 20 took place on May 31 and June 1.
DHS reported that of the 22 deaths, 16 took place at Goa Medical College (GMC); 1 at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH); 1 at the North Goa District Hospital (NGDH); 1 at a private hospital in South Goa (Victor Hospital); 1 at a private hospital in North Goa (RG Stone Hospital); 1 was brought dead to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Corlim; and 1 was brought dead to PHC Shrioda.
5 of the 22 deceased persons had no comorbidities.
DHS added that only one of the 22 patients had received one dose of the vaccine while the remaining had not.
Amongst the youngest to succumb to the infection was a 38 year-male from Parra, a 40-year-old male from Camorlim, a 42-year-old female from Siolim and a 44-year-old female from Morjim. All of the remaining deaths were of persons above the age of 45.
The total number of deaths has now risen to 2671 since the beginning of the pandemic
DHS added that 810 new persons were placed under home isolation, while 93 new patients were hospitalised. 139 persons were discharged from various hospitals.
1,777 persons were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours and the recovery rate is now at 90.71 per cent
On Tuesday, 4720 samples were reported to have been tested in the last 24 hours.
The total number of active cases has also dropped down to 11,867. From these cases, after a long time, no Health Centre is reporting over 1,00 active cases, Urban Health Centre Margao (923) continues to report the highest number of active cases, while Primary Health Centre Ponda (745), PHC Porvorim (548) and PHC Panjim (585) are the ones who have above 500 active cases. PHC Mayem (114) has the lowest number of active cases, while PHC Cansarvanem (129), PHC Sanguem (195) and PHC Chinchinim (199) are those who have fewer than 200 active cases.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that call centres are active in each taluka which are monitoring all the patients under home isolation and passing on the information to DHS.
