PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 caseload breached the 20,000- mark on Saturday with active patients close to 5000. The day saw 592 people getting infected to the virus.
The mortality graph continued to surge as nine more patients, with co-morbid conditions, succumbed to the virus taking the total count to 229.
Since September 1, Goa set a record by adding 3,037 new patients to the COVID tally, while there were 37 who succumbed to the virus.
As many as 713 people got infected to COVID-19 on September 3, the highest ever. September 1 had seen 588 people getting infected, while September 2 had added up 636 positive patients and another 508 reported on September 4.
With 592 new COVID cases, the State’s count of confirmed patients stood at 20,455 of which 4945 people are currently undergoing treatment at various facilities and in home isolation.
The day also saw 534 recoveries. As such, since January 29, a total of 15,281 patients have been declared cured.
As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 2515 samples tested on Saturday, 592 were positive while 1510 were negative. The reports of 413 samples are awaited. Till date, the State has conducted 2,11,048 tests.
The deceased include an 80-year-old man from Shiroda, a 76-year-old man from Penha de Franca, a 62-year-old man from Madkai, a 38-year-old man from Karaswada and a 35-year-old man from Zuarinagar, all admitted in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) who were declared dead on Friday.
On Saturday, until the bulletin was released, there was a 67-year-old woman from Sanvordem, an 83-year-old man Nageshi, a 51-year-old man from Velim, and a 68-year-old woman from Maulingem-Bicholim.
As many as 167 patients are currently admitted in hospital isolation while 405 have opted for home isolation.
