MARGAO: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday informed that the COVID Hospital at South Goa District Hospital will be opened by September 19.

While commenting on the two top floors of the South Goa District Hospital being given to private party to run Rane said, ”Private medical college being planned at the South Goa District Hospital is an unnecessary controversy. Today our priority is to fight COVID and not handing over the hospital to some private party. This hospital will always be run by Director of Health Services.”
He explained that there was a plan for nursing institute but then we don’t need it. There is also a demand from the parents that the seats at the Goa Medical College may be increased. Let COVID end and then they will think over it.
“The two floors on the top of the hospital are made as nursing institute and designed as a teaching facility which can’t be converted,” he added.
“I am not egoistic and may go ahead with the Nursing College proposal of the people as they are opposed to the plan of private medical college at the building,” the Health Minister said during a visit to the South Goa District Hospital.
He said that by next Friday he will hold a final meeting and the COVID Hospital for mild to moderate patients may be opened. Based on the occupancy, the hospital will be boosted to full capacity COVID Hospital.
“There is a need for all the facilities in the hospital and the testing facilities, flu OPD and casualty for positive patients will continue,” he added.
“No one can predict a spike. Entire families are turning positive. Hence we will be keeping a data of each and every patient and we will give the best to patients barring who they are and what they do,” Rane said.
“Goa is the only State which has spent the most for giving the best in healthcare facilities. Goa is the first State to provide kits to the people right at the rural level to monitor COVID. We will have dedicated person in the Primary Health Centres to monitor the patients in isolation and will collect data. These facilities will be launched by Chief Minister soon,” he said.
