MARGAO: The sorry state of affairs at the Margao Hospicio Hospital was brought to light on Wednesday as one senior citizen COVID-19 patient was left unattended for several hours for want of an ambulance.

The media persons were also not allowed inside the hospital resulting in yet another controversy.

The senior citizen’s fate was left unattended at the hospital; despite he was tested positive for COVID-19 and pleading for help even by the elected representative also gone unheard.

Speaking to the media persons, Margao Municipal Councillor Vitorino Pereira alleged that one COVID-19 patient was left unattended for several hours for want of an ambulance.

“One senior citizen was brought to Hospicio for the treatment but he was tested positive. However, he was left unattended. Upon enquiry it was told to us that there was no ambulance,” he said.

Shockingly, when few of the media persons reached Hospicio, the security guards at the gate objected to the entry. “Media persons are not allowed inside the Hospicio,” stated one of the security guards at the gate.

Few people gathered at the hospital stated that media are not allowed purposely to hide the shortcomings of the hospital.

It must be noted that the media persons are even not allowed in the new district hospital for any photograph nor for any enquiry.

The locals alleged that the people and journalist voices are being choked to hide their shortcomings. When Herald tried to contact Medical Superintendent of Hospicio Dr Deepa Corria Afonso, her phone was not reachable.
