PANJIM: The State’s daily COVID positivity rate has dropped to 25 per cent on Thursday, the lowest since mid April, even as 1,504 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours.
Interestingly, the State has been reporting 39 COVID-related deaths for three consecutive days and the total number of fatalities stand at 2,538.
The State’s COVID positivity rate which touched 51 per cent on May 10, is slowly flattening. On May 1, the daily positivity rate stood at 39 per cent.
The daily positivity rate — considered highest in the country until a week ago — dropped to 30 per cent on May 25 — the lowest. Thereafter, it has been varying between 32 and 36 per cent.
The lowest positivity rate of 21 per cent was recorded on April 17 but it picked up thereafter with sudden surge in daily cases.
From May 1, till date, 61,348 cases have been reported in the State.
As per bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the total 5,951 samples tested, 1,504 have been detected with COVID, taking the case tally to 1,52,401.
The day also saw 1,557 recoveries.
As such, the total active case tally dropped slightly and stood at 15,699.
On Thursday, 39 more patients succumbed to the infection taking the total death toll to 2,538. Of these, 23 deaths were reported in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), 8 in South Goa District Hospital and two persons were declared brought dead at Hospicio and Primary Health Centre Quepem.
Six deaths were reported in private hospitals, designated as COVID hospitals.
The DHS informed that four of deceased had received their first dose of vaccine.
