COVID positivity rate slides to 21.16% with 1055 new cases; Death score still critical at 32

PANJIM: The daily number of COVID cases dropped to 1,055 cases with the positivity rate also going down to 21.16%. 

However, the number of deaths continues to remain high with another 32 reported by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Friday. 

Two of these deaths took place on May 2 and May 21, while the remaining 30 took place on May 27 and May 28. 

DHS added that 18 of the 32 deaths took place at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC); 10 at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), 1 at a private hospital in North Goa (Vision Hospital); and three at private hospitals in South Goa (Victor Hospital and Mother Care Hospital).

It was also noted that 6 persons of the above 32 had reported no comorbidities. 

DHS had added that only two of the 32 patients had received one dose of the vaccine while the remaining 30 had not taken a single vaccine dose.  

Amongst the youngest to succumb to the infection was a 28-year-old male from Calangute, a 35-year-old male from Ponda and a 38-year-old female from Paroda.

Overall, the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic has now reached 2570. 

Meanwhile, 1396 persons recovered from the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours of Friday evening.

The recovery rate is now at 83.34%. 

While 4865 new samples were tested, 932 persons have been placed under home isolation. 

123 patients were hospitalised whereas 154 persons were discharged from hospitals. 

The total number of active cases is now at 1532.

Of these,  1391 are under the Urban Health Centre (UHC) Margao;  881 at UHC Panjim; 832 at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ponda; 740 at PHC Chimbel; 659 at PHC Porvorim; 656 at PHC Candolim; 599 at PHC Cansaulim;  583 at PHC Cortalim; 550 at PHC Pernem; and 532 at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Curchorem.  The remaining Health Centres have active cases below 500.
