COVID positivity rate witnesses sharp decline

PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 positivity rate witnessed a sharp decline at 6.93 per cent on Friday, with drop in daily new infection to 212. However, the active case load crossed thousand mark and stood at 1046. 

The daily infectivity rate which was at 7.22 per cent on Thursday, the day also reported highest single-day spike with 261 cases, dropped to 6.93 per cent on Friday. 

Since December 28, State has logged 755 new cases. On Wednesday, State had recorded 170 new cases of COVID-19 while on Tuesday it was 112.

The day has also reported one fatality while 21 patients have been recovered.

Meanwhile, seven passengers, travelled from United Kingdom and three from UAE tested COVID positive after arriving in Goa. They were moved to an isolation facility.

Their samples have been sent to genome sequencing at NIV Pune for possible presence of an Omicron variant.
