COVID SURGE: ‘State geared up to face any situation’

Mock drills conducted at GMC, North and South district hospitals; ICUs, oxygen plants, medicine supplies, wards and other facilities checked during the drill

PANJIM: The State health authorities on Tuesday conducted mock drills at designated hospitals, to gauge operational readiness of equipment and human resources in the wake of Covid-19 surge in some countries. The Authorities assured that Goa is fully prepared to handle any emergency. 

The Centre had asked states and union territories to conduct the drill as part of precautionary measures following an increase in infection in China and other countries.

State Health Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra, who supervised the mock drill at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) said, “The state is geared up to face any situation and all the facilities including oxygen requirement is in place.”

Speaking to mediapersons post inspection, Mishra said that the intensive care units, oxygen plants, medicine supplies, wards among other facilities were checked during the mock drill.

“There is nothing to worry about. We are fully prepared and there is enough oxygen supply to meet the peak hour requirement at the hospitals”, he added.

The mock drills were also conducted at North Goa District Hospital and South Goa District Hospital.
