VASCO: The Goa administration has enhanced COVID testing in the affected areas of Mormugao taluka even as the number of positive cases continues to rise. The silver lining though is that the number of recoveries has also started increasing.
South Goa Collector Ajit Roy met Deputy Collector Mormugao Sachin Dessai and held a closed-door meeting with the stakeholders on Thursday to review the situation in containment zone at Mangor. The Deputy Collector Mormugao informed only 120 swab samples were collected on Thursday as opposed to a target of 300 samples.

During the meeting it was decided to take 300 swab samples from every lane of the Mangor containment zone, but unfortunately on Thursday only 120 individuals came forward to give their swab samples whose results will be coming by tomorrow.
“We were expecting people to cooperate, but did not receive a very good response from the people from the containment zone for increased testing,” Dessai added.
Roy stated that there has been no decision over the realignment of the Mangor containment zone.
Dessai also mentioned that there was a demand from the people of Bada Mangor to remove their area from the containment zone. The Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida had also put up the proposal of the realignment of the Mangor hill area, but the discussion is in progress.
Later when questioned whether the administration was considering making Zuarinagar a mini-containment zone, Roy said that so far there has been no plan of putting this area under containment zone and added that the situation is under control.
The Collector further advised that as the COVID positive cases have spiked, it is every person’s responsibility to take care of themselves.
Roy also emphasised that people should strictly follow safety norms and should also maintain social distancing to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Later, Dessai informed that in the meeting there was a discussion regarding the improvement of facilities and essential supplies to the containment zone in Mangor.
