Mining activities in the State have remained unregulated due to the lack of political will. Whether it is the Congress government or BJP-led alliance, mining barons have so far enjoyed complete immunity.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced that they would nationalise mining industry in the State if they come to power.
General Secretary of CPI, A B Bardhan told a  press  conference  on Tuesday here that  they are  for  nationalizing mining  industry   and it would be a reality if the Third Front comes to power.
Bardhan was in Goa to canvass for CPI candidates in the fray. He said, unchecked and irresponsible mining have led to massive exploitation of water resources and this unrestrained exploitation of natural resources has to be stopped.
He observed Goa has changed socially, economically and culturally in the last forty years. Tourism has brought in five star culture to the State and it is being treated as enlarged casino.
Hitting out  at local politicians Bardhan said, real estate industry has sold out Goa where as  top  politicians who have been now shouting at the rooftops  against Goa  being  sold,  are  themselves  the real estate agents.
