MARGAO: That the authorities are clamping down on alcohol trade since the code of conduct for elections has come into force was established as Konkan Railway Police and Margao Town Police both seized alcohol being transported illegally at two different places.
On March 15, at around 6 pm, Konkan Railway Police nabbed 22-year-old Sudhakar Rajbhar, a native of Uttar Pradesh at the Pernem Railway Station with 40 alcohol bottles; as he did not have any documents for the alcohol in possession, he was arrested.
Police seized 1 bottle of Magic Moments vodka, 1 Imperial Blue whisky bottle, 11 bottles of Honey Master rum, 12 bottles of Bombay Royal whisky and 15 bottles of Real whisky. The seized alcohol is worth around Rs 2,190.
Meanwhile, Margao Town police arrested three natives of Andhra Pradesh near Apollo Hospital and recovered from them 2 cans each having 5 litres of Urak and three bottles of 2- litre capacity filled with cashew feni.
The alcohol seized was estimated to be worth Rs 3,000. The three arrested are Shaikh Mohammad, Bombutula Aruliala and Gurushankar Balavia all three hailing from Andhra Pradesh and aged between 20 and 30 years.
