Cracked gabion wall at Keri beach on verge of collapse

Tetrapods lay buried in the sand due to excessive erosion

PERNEM: The gabion wall at Keri beach has developed a huge crack and is on the verge of collapse.
To add to this due to excessive soil erosion, the tetrapods have got buried in the sand.
It is pertinent to note that gabion wall was constructed and tetrapods were laid after spending crores of rupees by the WRD to protect the Keri beach from erosion.
WRD had taken up work of laying tetrapods at Keri beach soon after the gabion wall started to collapse some years ago to protect the eroding Keri Beach. However, following heavy rains, these tetrapods have got buried in the sand.
A local KetanTalcar said, “The protection wall at Keri beach needs urgent repair since the tetrapods have got buried in the sand. The gabion wall too has been damaged and may collapse any time”.
“Crores of rupees have been spent to construct this protection wall at Keri beach but it has not been maintained. The wall has developed cracks. If it is not repaired immediately then it will collapse soon,” another local said.
