Margao: NGO, Save Golden Goa, has this time resorted to planting a larger papaya tree in a pothole on the Old Market Circle in Fatorda.
The NGO claims that the banana plant earlier planted in the pothole had not made any effect on the PWD and to appeal ever harder they have this time decided to plant a larger tree.
The NGO has warned of intensifying the protest by sowing seeds and starting cultivation on the roads if they don’t repair the thoroughfare on time.
The NGO has termed the PWD as useless and has said they have failed to do their duty to mend the roads. “The sewage department and others have ravaged the roads and have not done anything to repair the stretches. The bad roads have been troubling all commuters but they have not budged,” said convenor of Save Golden Goa, Camilo Barretto.
The Old Market Circle has become a danger zone and is witnessing several accidents during the day. Dilip Chavan, a commuter endorsing planting of trees said, “The MLAs and the representatives have to go ahead, repair roads and then go for elections.”
Osby Viegas a two-wheeler commuter said, “The potholes have become so huge that not trees, but soon humans will be buried alive on these roads and I appeal to the MLAs that before you groom your houses, care for the people who have elected you to power.”
