Crib damaged at Goa Velha

PANJIM: In a rather bizarre incident, miscreants damaged a mechanical moving Christmas crib at Goa Velha. Youth under the banner of St Francis De Assisi, who had built the crib, have lodged a complaint with Agassaim police station seeking action against the accused.  “We had made a big crib in our ward next to our Chapel. The crib was found in a damaged state on January 3. The moving statues were thrown in the water and dismantled. The place (where the crib was kept) was damaged totally. Even the lighting work done was damaged and removed (uprooted),” the complaint stated.  One of the group members Anthony Rodrigues told Herald the crib would be kept open for public view from 6.30pm till midnight as part of the programme organised for the people in the village. On Thursday, they found the crib in a damaged state after which they lodged a complaint. The loss is estimated at around Rs 70,000, he said.  Agassaim police have said an inquiry was underway.
