VALPOI, JAN 31 A man believed to be in his mid-thirties was found dead near a rivulet, barely 50 metres from the Valpoi-Panjim highway at Nagve-Valpoi-Sattari on Monday evening.

A man believed to be in his mid-thirties was found dead near a rivulet, barely 50 metres from the Valpoi-Panjim highway at Nagve-Valpoi-Sattari on Monday evening.
According to Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar, an unknown person called up Valpoi Police to report a dead body lying at Nagve in Valpoi.
A police team rushed to the spot and found the highly decomposed body.
The police suspects that the man might have committed suicide as three empty packets of rat poison and a full packet (commando Rat poison) along with 2 water bottles in a plastic bag were found near the body.
Going by the clothes on the body, police believes that the deceased could be a native from another State. The body was later sent for an autopsy at the GMC hospital at Bambolim and investigations are in progress to identify the deceased.

Indictment filed in Mapusa murder

Mapusa Police has filed an indictment against Uttam Chawan before the Judicial Magistrate First class at Mapusa, in connection with the murder of a labourer in a flat at Peddem-Mapusa. 
Chawan, who was arrested by the police on November 1, 2010, is presently in police custody at Mapusa.
It may be recalled that while counting of the votes of the Mapusa Municipal election was in progress, Mapusa Police received a call stating that a body was found lying in a pool of blood at a flat at Peddem.
The deceased, Devesh Verma, was fatally stabbed by the accused in the stomach.
In the 95-page indictment police examined about 50 witnesses in support of its case. Police Sub Inspector Rajesh Kumar conducted the investigations under the guidance of DySP Sammy Tavares.

Calangute police bust prostitution racket

CALANGUTE, JAN 31
The Calangute Police busted a prostitution racket late Sunday evening and arrested seven persons, including six eunuchs, besides rescuing a girl from a disco pub at Calangute-Baga.
According to Calangute PI Manjunath Dessai, the raid was carried out at 12 midnight based on reliable information.  The six eunuchs along with a Mumbai girl were caught red-handed demanding money from customers.
The owner of the disco pub, Norman Socorro Azavedo (42) of Sangolda, was also arrested in this connection.
The raid was carried out in the presence of an NGO and DySP P L Mapari.
The girl has been sent to Apna Ghar, Merces, while the investigation is being carried out by PI Manjunath Dessai.

Ex-mamlatdar questioned

Mapusa Police on Monday recorded the statement of former Bardez Mamlatdar P M Borkar, in connection with the forged birth certificate of Ganeshraj Narvekar, son of Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar. With this, the police have so far interrogated 13 persons in the case.
