Crime Branch arrest imposter in Mumbai

PANJIM: The Crime Branch recently apprehended one Suraj Vivek Pendse, a resident of Muddungo, Assagao, for allegedly impersonating as Crime Branch Superintendent of Police.

Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Nidhin Velsan, on Sunday informed that an offence was registered against the accused person under Sections 170, 506 (ii), 419, 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) upon receiving a complaint from Gagandeep Manmohan Singh Sehgal, a resident of West Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, that he was cheated to the tune of Rs 1 lakh by a person impersonating himself as SP Mahesh Gaonkar, who retired from service two months ago.

The SP further informed that the accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC) Mapusa, and is remanded to five days police custody. Further investigation is in progress, he said.

 During the course of investigation, the accused was nabbed at Andheri (East) Mumbai, informed the SP.
