PANJIM: The Crime Branch of Goa police on Saturday busted a fake call centre at Sangolda and arrested two persons from Gujarat.
The police arrested Tilak Joshi and Harsh Patel, both natives of Ahmedabad, Gujarat for allegedly duping US citizens by asking for commission on the pretext of faster delivery of goods/articles purchased by them. Joshi was acting as the manager of the fake call centre and also had four employees for the purpose of duping US nationals by using computer systems.
Police said that the accused hatched a criminal conspiracy to cheat the US nationals under the pretext of offering speedy delivery of articles purchased by them. They were duping US nationals by promising them speedy delivery of articles purchased through online shopping and were inducing them to part away with 49 Dollars or 99 Dollars for speedy delivery of goods.
The accused were not authorised agents of the e-commerce company nor could they give speedy delivery of goods purchased through the company.
The accused did not provide any service to the customers but were taking commission and were using computer systems, mobile phones to communicate via x-lite/eye beam app to receive and make calls to US nationals.
During the raid, 30 CPUs, 30 Keyboards, 30 Monitors, 32 headphones, two laptops, one Modem, one lease line cable, two routers and 29 Mobile phones have been seized.
The Crime Branch registered the case against the accused under sections 419, 420 and 120-B of IPC and sections 66-C, 66-D of IT Act registered.
Joshi and Patel have been remanded to four days police custody and three other accused have been remanded to 14 days judicial custody. One accused has not been arrested, he being sick, police said.
