Says decision in a couple of days

MARGAO: The government is seriously considering handing over the Canacona building collapse case to the CID, crime branch.
Admitting that the Canacona case involves a probe into various aspects and requires team work, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who also holds the home portfolio, said a decision to hand over the case to the CID, crime branch, will be taken in a couple of days. “The crime branch is overburdened with a number of cases, including the Tejpal case. I have asked the chief secretary to do a review of cases handled by the crime branch in order so as to hand over the Canacona case to the investigating agency”, he said.
When his attention was drawn to the fact that the Canacona case investigation requires a team to go into a number of issues, Parrikar admitted that the work can be best handled by the crime branch. “Since the crime branch is overloaded, we can give the agency one more officer”, he said.
Replying to another question, Parrikar said the crime branch is presently preoccupied with the Tejpal case, saying that the agency plans to file the charge sheet in the court by the end of the month.
Presently, the Canacona case is being investigated by DySP Goltekar and Canacona police, with the police having already arrested three persons, building contractor Vishwas Desai, deputy town planner Prakash Bandodkar and deputy collector Prashant Shirodkar. The builder Pradip Singh Birring is still at large.
Replying to a question, Parrikar said the Goa police was on the lookout for the absconding builders, while asserting that all the guilty will be brought to book.
