Crime Branch to investigate Chawdi building collapse

PANJIM: The Crime Branch will now be investigating the case of fatal collapse of an under construction building at Chawdi in Canacona after the local police station handed it over to them on Thursday.

PANJIM: The Crime Branch will now be investigating the case of fatal collapse of an under construction building at Chawdi in Canacona after the local police station handed it over to them on Thursday. 
CB officials said Canacona police have transferred all the documents related to the investigation after nearly 10 days. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had announced that the case would be transferred to the CB ‘to get to the bottom of the matter.’
Deputy Superintendent of Police Nilu Raut Desai will be heading the investigation. As many as 32 labourers including Goan workers were killed after the building collapsed like a pack of cards on January 3. 
While the prime accused are still at large and one of them have applied for anticipatory bail. Two government officers have been arrested. Government has already instituted an inquiry into the matter under the V K Jha committee.
