MARGAO: After the news of a minor boy surviving after being thrown in the well by his uncle and a spike in cases against the minors rippled shock across Curtorim, locals have urged the police to file an FIR against the culprit for attempting to murder.
Speaking to media persons, locals have also demanded that the government conducts a survey of the wells located at unknown places in order to avoid unwanted incidents.
Deputy Sarpanch of Curtorim Panchayat Simon Barreto said, “It was shocking to know that the uncle had thrown his son into the well.”
“Such incidents are not only shocking but are alarming once pertaining to the cases against the minor children. And hence, now it is the duty of the police to carry out an investigation thoroughly,” Barreto said.
He further said even they were unaware of the well, which is on the property owned by the government.
“Earlier too, locals had found several robbed bikes inside the well at Curtorim and this is a second incident, which is an alarming one,” the deputy sarpanch said.
Rohit Gaonkar, a resident of Margao also expressed shock over the increasing number of cases against minors in the State.
“It is high time that the police and other concerned authorities keep a vigil on activities heading towards offenses against juveniles. Awareness programs are a need of the hour pertaining to the same,” Gaonkar said.
On Wednesday, five cases were reported in the state, wherein children were the victims.
Valencia Rodrigues, a teacher by profession is also of the same opinion that crime against minors will surely damage the fabric of society.
“Society needs to be vigilant, besides some strict law enforcement pertaining to crimes against minors,” Rodrigues said.
She said the uncle throwing his son into the well is not at all acceptable just like the rape of minors.
