Crimes in Ponda drop significantly

Police attribute the drop to their law enforcement measures, patrolling, preventive action and public awareness meetings

PONDA: Crimes under the jurisdiction of Ponda Police Station have dropped considerably, this year.
Police attribute this drop in crimes to their law enforcement measures, patrolling, preventive action and public awareness meetings.
There were no major law and order situation in Ponda taluka this year and this was due to timely action by the police. This is a significant improvement as compared to last year. Police say that, despite of shortage of staff, they doubled up the preventive measures to reduce crimes.
However there has been a rise of unnatural deaths, including suicide cases.
Ponda PI Harish Madcaikar said that the total number of cases recorded under IPC in 2017 were 211, which this year is down to 149. While the crime detection rate in 2017 was 81.99 percent, this year, it is 93 percent.
Madcaikar said that better enforcement, hard work, patrolling and preventive action helped to reduce crimes.
PI Madcaikar said that he had taken 236 preventive measures this year, as compared to 177 last year. Police took 84 people into custody for suspicious activity last year, while this year, they had taken 264 people into custody. There were nine rioting cases last year and this year they were three.
There were 34 property offences last year, of which 15 were detected; while this year, they were 26 and 20 were detected.  There was one burglary case this year in which a car and jewellary were burgled from the house of Babuli Gaonkar at OPA Khandepar. This case was detected by police who recovered the car and arrested two Bangladeshi nationals.  PI Madcaikar said that last year there were eight kidnapping cases, this year they were three and all detected. Last year, only three narcotic cases were reported, but this year police booked 16 cases by arresting the accused in all cases. 
Last year, there were 11 house burglary cases, but this year nine were reported and four detected. Last year 1475 cases were booked for smoking in the public, but this year police booked 4826 cases.
Last year, there were 32 gambling cases this year police recorded 67 cases. 
Eight motor vehicle thefts were reported and detected this year, while last year, were 14 reported but only 4 were detected. There was one murder case of unknown female at KTC hill but police failed to detect.
Last year, police registered 751 cases for garbage nuisance in public places, but this year 3370 cases were booked.
