BICHOLIM: A 45-year old woman died after she was attacked and dragged into the Amthane dam at Wadaval in Bicholim on Saturday afternoon.
The tragedy occurred when the woman identified as Sangeeta Shingadi from Latambarcem had taken her goats for grazing and stopped on her way and ventured into the dam water to wash her hands when she was suddenly attacked by the giant reptile and dragged deep into the water.
The fire and emergency personnel and police rushed to the site and retrieved the body after much effort.
Following the tragedy, the locals have demanded erection of railing along the dam reservoir to prevent people and wild animals from entering the water, which is infested with crocodiles.
Locals stated that the deceased was widow and is survived by three children. After he husband’s death two months ago, she eked her living by grazing goats.
Bicholim police later conducted the panchanama and sent the body to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
