SATTARI: Floods brought by heavy rains and overflowing rivers in the State have caused the major damage to crops and plantations, particularly in Sattari taluka.
Farmers said that their crops have been destroyed in the floods that washed away banana plantations, arecanut, cashew, coconut and other trees.
The zonal agriculture office of Sattari has estimated a loss of around Rs 40 lakh in the Taluka, with Velus, Sonal, Khotodem, Ustem, Kerim, Savordem, Bhirondem, Advoi, Mauxi, Padeli, Massordem and Guleli villagers being the most affected.
In Sattari, most of the villagers are involved in agriculture and sustain as this income. Farmers are hoping for adequate compensation from the Government as soon as possible.
The Agriculture Department officials have visited most of the flood affected areas in the Taluka to survey the destroyed plantations.
