Cross-check parameters before ordering water tankers: WRD

PANJIM: At the backdrop of cases involving transfer of raw sewage from night soil tankers into water tankers in Vasco, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has urged public to cross-check parameters such as type of tanker, source of water at filling points and permissions granted before ordering water tankers for drinking purposes. 

WRD Chief Engineer Pramod Badami in a public awareness notice issued on Tuesday stated that due to summer season the demand of water for various purposes such as domestic, commercial, industrial, etc, is at its peak and hence to meet the shortfall, the tanker water supply is resorted in some areas. 

He said that the ground water officers of respective talukas issue permissions for operating water tankers, specifiying the source of        water and purpose of its supply as per Ground Water Regulation Act 2002. 

As the water tankers are operating for various purposes, the public are hereby cautioned to ensure following criteria while ordering such tankers for drinking purposes: The water tanker should have stainless steel water tank and have to be certified by Directorate of Health services and Ground Water Officer.  Source,  the source of water should be a treated water source at filling points of PWD. Permission, ascertain the permit issued to the water tanker by the groundwater officer which is affixed on its front wind screen,” states the public notice.
