Crucial meeting to resolve long pending Selaulim evacuees issue

SANGUEM:  A high level meeting was held recently to discuss the issues affecting Selaulim Evacuees which was attended by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Dy CM Babu Kavlekar, WRD Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues along with government officers. 

  During the meeting Revenue minister and WRD minister were made aware of the long pending demand of the Selaulim evacuees who had sacrificed their ancestral lands to pave way for Selaulim Dam but till date the issue has not been resolved.

Kavlekar who is aware of the issue stressed the need to hold rehabilitation committee meeting to push the issue forward in the right earnest. He also requested to include granting the Evacuees the status of Class I from Class II and also allocation of housing and agricultural plots of land to so called missing families.

Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar expressed the need for resurveying the entire area allocated to the Evacuees to identify the vacant plots of land at Wadem and at Valkini village. The available vacant plots could subsequently be easily allocated to the left out families, claimed Gaonkar.

While admitting that the issues concerning the Selaulim Evacuees could have been settled but the successive change in government authorities delayed gap in conducting the Rehabilitation Committee meetings which made the issues remained unsolved as of now.

Kavlekar assured in getting the prime issues settled at the earliest and urged the Revenue and the WRD ministers to have a meeting and working plan to solve the issue on priority basis.

Later speaking to Media, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar claimed that the meeting was fruitful and he explained the authorities in detail as to how the issues concerning the Evacuees could be solved easily with proper plan in mind.
