PANJIM, MARCH 4
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira today convened a meeting of the sarpanchas, panchayat secretaries and their legal advisors to take the process further for providing relief to those affected by the CRZ violations issue in court.
Over 2,500 structures are facing demolition following the High Court directives to village panchayats to take action against illegal structures in CRZ areas.
The meeting convened by the minister, was also attended by Advocate General Subodh Kantak.
Sequeira is learnt to have asked the panchayats to adhere to the directions given by the court.
The case is slated to come up in the HC on Thursday.
The state government is under fire after the Cidade episode and is seeking legal advise as it cannot amend the CRZ Act through ordinance, as it is a Central Act and has no provision for state amendment unlike the Land Acquisition Act.
