Residents of St Jose Vaddo and Khodapa Vaddo in Cuchelim ward of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) have objected to the movement of heavy vehicles along the road from Gotnicho Vau to the Cuchelim Church junction.
In a memorandum to the Bardez Deputy Collector, they mentioned that there is continuous movement of heavy vehicles carrying building materials like sand, laterite stones, cement and tiles along the stretch of road every day from 4 am to 8 pm.

heavy vehicles ply along this stretch of road everyday, threatening the safety of villagers including school children who commute along this road,’ the memorandum stated.
‘Further the constant honking of these vehicles right from the wee hours till night is causing a noise pollution. Recently, this stretch of road has been hot-mixed, which is why heavy vehicular traffic has increased and the smooth road has encouraged drivers to drive their vehicles in high speed.’
‘Earlier, heavy vehicles were plying from the Kharaswada junction to the Duler junction, before proceeding to their respective destinations. Heavy vehicle drivers use this route to reach their destination faster so that they can make large number of trips per day,’ the memorandum added.
Residents have demanded the closure of the stretch of road to heavy vehicular traffic and have sought the deployment of traffic policemen at the church junction and at the entry point of Gotincho Vau.
