SANGUEM: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar, who is also the Agriculture Minister, on Monday assured to look into the problems faced by cucumber cultivators from Netravali Sanguem.
The cultivators allegedly had suffered losses due to the rejection of their products by the Horticulture Development Corporation Procurement Centre in the village.
Speaking to media, Kavlekar informed, “I have directed the Zonal Agriculture Officer from Sanguem to visit the site and submit a report to his office over the incident of the procurement centre rejecting the cucumbers which weighs over 110 grams.”
“If the cucumbers were not tender then the procurement centre can reject its acceptance but if the cucumbers were bigger in size and were still tender than there is no ground for its rejection by the staff working at the procurement centre,” he added.
“I will personally look into the matter and get the issue resolved,” Kavlekar assured.
It can be recalled that the farmers from Netravali and other neighbouring villages had raised the issue of the cucumbers brought by them for sale at the Horticulture outlet in the village being rejected by the staff as they were overweight and could not be accepted.
This has led many farmers to take some of the cucumbers back home and feed for their cattle or throw out the surplus resulting in severe losses.
