VASCO: It was thrilling experience for the Scout and Guides of the Rosary High School, Cujira as they went rafting in the Vaddem Lake on Monday morning.
In all 70 scout and guides, who prepared these handmade rafts using bamboos and pet bottles, were overjoyed as they rowed across the lake.
The team of students was accompanied by the teachers and Drishti lifeguards during the rafting activity.
Headmistress Savita Carvalho informed that five years ago, teacher Sangle introduced them to rafting and this is sixth year the schools is organising this activity.
Carvalho thanked Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Parish Priest of St Andrew’s church and the Fabrica de Igreja de St Andre for allowing them to undertake the rafting activity in the lake.
Guides Capt and teacher Alice Joan Goes, informed that the handmade rafts have been made using bamboos and pet bottles for buoyancy. Scout Master Nameshwar Sangle and other scouts and guides have prepared the same.
Headmistress Sarita Carvalho, Alvito D’Costa, teachers Heramb Prabhugaonkar and Niyoska Godinho were present. Principal of St Andrew’s Higher Secondary School asked students to be strong and positive in life to be successful.
A lifeguard informed that there were nine Drishti lifeguards keeping watch over the students while they were rafting in the lake. Thirty lifejackets were used and 6 rescue boats were moving in the lake during the activity, the lifeguard added.
