MARGAO: The Cuncolim unit of the Congress has warned that people of Cuncolim will come out on the streets if the government does not work out a package for Cuncolkars in the proposed NIT project.
Former Cuncolim Youth Congress President Paresh Desai said the government should either hold a power point presentation on the NIT, citing the benefits accruing to the local youth or else face the brunt of the local people.
“It is a proven fact that the BJP dispensation led by Manohar Parrikar is a U-turn government. The same NIT project when it was proposed by the Congress government was objected to by the BJP tooth and nail. The same BJP is for this project now,” he said.
Paresh said the Congress will not object to the project if the government declares that local youth will get jobs in the institution. “At a recent media conference, the BJP Cuncolim mandal had said that locals will get jobs of peons and watchmen. We want to know whether this project is meant for locals or for this so-called BJP mandal,” he asked, while demanding that the Cuncolim BJP MLA Rajan Naik should come out openly and declare a package for the local youth. “We will oppose the project tooth and nail if our demands are not met,” Paresh warned.
