MARGAO: The Animal Welfare Board Officer has expressed grave concerns over the shoddy investigation and lack of back up by the Cuncolim Police in the Chinchinim illegal slaughter house raid case. The Board officer has said she met the Chief Minister and spoke to him about the case.
The Animal Welfare Board Officer Anjali Anand told the media in Margao that the Cuncolim Police and the entire hierarchy of the Police have propagated and helped the illegal activity of the illegal slaughter house and the accused in the case. Anjali said the PSI attached to the Cuncolim Police station, who came to the spot after the raid on the Sunday night, “conspired to release the accused who was arrested that night.” She also said the police not only acted in contravention of rules of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act but also let the cattle and the calf at the slaughter house be silently shifted out of the area by unknown persons.
“The accused was taken that night in the police vehicle. The police said they would take him to the police station. However, the said accused was not to be found at the police station next day,” claimed Anjali.
“It was the responsibility of the police according to the Act to hand over the animals found at the illegal slaughter house to a Gaushala for care and protection but they have miserably failed by putting the animals to death,” alleged Anjali.
The officer has accused very shoddy investigation by the police and has accused them of shielding the accused in the case.
