MARGAO: The Green Goa Foundation (GGF) has called on the committee of Sociedade Agricola Gauncares de Cuncolim e Veroda to initiate civil suits to invalidate transactions that have violated the society’s rules regarding land in Cuncolim. Raison Almeida, Chairman of GGF, expressed concerns about the mismanagement of the land under the committee’s jurisdiction and emphasized the need for legal action to rectify the situation.
Almeida criticized the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for their alleged inaction in addressing the complaint and accused them of favouring those involved in the misconduct. He suggested two courses of action for the committee. “To obtain appropriate relief within the prescribed time, the committee must either file a writ petition before the High Court, seeking time-bound directions to the SIT for completing the investigation and filing a charge sheet, or institute civil suits to cancel the transactions,” Almeida told O Heraldo.
GGF is deeply troubled by the unlawful use of land owned by Sociedade Agricola Gauncares de Cuncolim e Veroda, with properties being sold for non-agricultural purposes in violation of regulations. The committee has already decided to hand over the land grabbing case to the SIT for investigation and to retrieve illegally-sold land.
Almeida further criticized the newly elected managing committee for allegedly neglecting to address the wrongdoings of the previous committee and instead opting for an SIT investigation. He expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the SIT and its ability to uncover the truth in previous cases.
The GGF warned that if the present managing committee fails to take legal action to cancel the transactions that violate society rules and obtain appropriate relief, the foundation will be compelled to approach the High Court in the interest of the public. They also indicated their intention to seek action against the current managing committee.
