MARGAO: Agitated residents of Cuncolim have demanded immediate action against those involved in illegal activities like unauthorised excavation and land-grabbing outside the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, failing which they have threatened to take to the streets in protest.
The Cuncolim Municipal Council has decided to inspect the site today.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the locals urged MLA Yuri Alemao to take the issue seriously and have also called on the CM to personally inspect the site.
“We will file a complaint with the SIT to investigate the matter pertaining to land grabbing,” said Adv Patrick Monteiro.
He alleged that those operating a fish exporting unit at the Industrial
Estate are engaged in illegal excavation at the site, and have failed to produce legal documents.
“Upon our complaint, the Deputy Collector had issued a stop work notice to the company, and the Town and Country Planning department had asked them to furnish permissions,” he added.
