MARGAO: Citizens of Cuncolim on Friday submitted a memorandum to the District Collector South demanding an immediate stop to the plying of heavy trucks on the Batiem-Veroda-Panzorcone road.
The citizens warned that the District Collector would be solely responsible if any untoward incident occurs on the road due to the plying of heavy vehicles.
A three member delegation led by Tarajan Desai said that transportation of industrial slag from the Cuncolim Industrial Estate is posing danger to residents staying along Batiem-Veroda-Panzorcone road. He said the right to free movement of people of Batiem-Veroda and Panzorcone has been threatened by rash movement of traffic from the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. “Many of the transporters also carry concentrated acids needed for some of the industries despite the fact there’s no designated road for carrying such cargo,” he said, adding that the heavy movement of traffic at odd hours has adversely affected the life of the people of the three areas.
