HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, MAY 12
Even as the 48-hour deadline set by the residents of
Cuncolim to detect the temple vandalism case expired this
evening, the Cuncolim locals had a meeting with the
managements of temples within the jurisdiction of the police
station.
While the police have promised to intensify night patrolling
of the major temples and other places of worship of the
Hindu community, representatives of the temple committees
have agreed to coordinate and extend their cooperation to
the men-in-uniform to keep the miscreants at bay.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Police Officer,
Margao, DySP Shamba Sawant and Cuncolim PI Sandesh
Chodankar.
It was revealed that around 30 temples and an equal number
of ghumtis and other places of worship are located within
the jurisdiction of Cuncolim Police Station. In such a
situation, the police solicited the cooperation of the
representatives of temple committees to help the police
maintain vigil around these structures.
Meanwhile, PI Chodankar told Herald that the police are
investigating into the desecration of the Seven Temples.
Though the police have not made much headway in the case,
PI Chodankar said the police are investigating the case from
all angles.
Meanwhile, Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao, who returned
home from Dubai last night, visited the temple desecration
site this morning and took stock of the situation.
A visibly agitated Alemao told the police to take
investigations into the case to its logical conclusion at the
earliest and called upon the citizens of Cuncolim to maintain
peace and communal harmony.
This is the third incident of temple vandalism reported in
Cuncolim constituency represented by Alemao. The first two
cases were that of the Rakhandar and the temple
desecration at Paroda.
