MARGAO: Congress MLA Clafasio Dias on Saturday assured people of Chandor that he would try to get the stretch of road in Cotta attended to as soon as possible by patching up the potholes. An impressive crowd led by Deputy Sarpanch Mafaldina Martins met him this morning to demand why the road was not asphalted.
The crowd sought to know why only the road in Cotta was not asphalted while even interior roads in the village were asphalted. They said that only the potholes were filled up and lamented that following the monsoons new potholes have emerged making it very dangerous to travel on the road.
Clafasio pointed out to them that Chandor villagers on 9th May 2018 had told him and the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar who had visited the village that day not to asphalt the road called SH 8 as they were fighting against it
He said the PWD minister had promised to divert the State Highway from the village and asked people to let the road be asphalted. “But the villagers demanded that no work should be done on the stretch named SH 8,” he said.
asking the people why did not come for that meeting.
However, he said he would take up the matter with the PWD minister during the assembly session now and at least get the potholes attended to as soon as possible.
He also took a dig at former MLA Joaquim Alemao and said that he through his friends in the government was blocking the developmental works in Cuncolim constituency. “If the TCP Minister had to announce earlier that the State Highway was not existing in the village, the road would have been asphalted along with other roads,” he said.
Clafasio repeated that Vijai was trying to promote Joaquim Alemao’s son Yuri Alemao and was playing with the people and their sentiments in this endeavour.
The crowd led by Mafaldina and two panchas namely Jose Pereira and Raymond D’Cruz had earlier called on the panchayat to meet the Sarpanch who was not in the office it being a Saturday. They then called on Clafacio at his office in the village.
