CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Municipal Council on Thursday cleared all the illegal structures and encroachments it property at Kalta near Cuncolim bus stand.
One Vishnu Desai had constructed some structures and had encroached on the council property. After Desai failed to comply with the council’s order to clear the encroachment, the councils on Thursday morning cleared all encroachments with police security.
Desai had converted the council’s property into the business hub. He had rented out this place to antique furniture vendors, watermelon vendor, tyre puncture stall and one small kiosk and he had also constructed one cement godown which was demolished by the council told ME Deepak Dessai.
Municipal Engineer Deepak Faldessai told Herald that Council acquired land near KTC bus stand for commercial project. The tenant of this agriculture land Vishnu Desai had gone on hunger strike to get his land back. But Desai lost this case even in Supreme Court. “He was cultivating part of the acquired land but slowly he converted this land into business hub so we were forced to clear the encroachments,” Faldessai said.
Meanwhile, Cuncolkars are now demanding demolition all illegal structures in Cuncolim. Citizens allege that even councillors are indulging in illegal activities.
