CUNCOLIM: Going by the figures provided by Cuncolim Police Station, it appears that though there have been fewer major crimes last year as compared to 2022, though the number of accidents and fatalities have increased substantially.
There were 13 fatal accidents registered last year as against only five registered in 2022. Similarly, while only 9 accidents were registered in 2022, last year 12 accidents occurred within the jurisdiction of this police station.
As for major crimes, no murder was registered in 2023 though one murder was registered in 2022. However, one attempt to murder and one culpable homicide case were registered last year, while not a single such case was registered in 2022.
Crimes against women showed a slight improvement, with one rape case in 2023 compared to three in 2022. Kidnapping cases remained constant at one each year, and in both cases, the kidnapper was nabbed and the victim, rescued.
Cuncolim police appear to have been hoodwinked by thieves as not only such cases increased last year, but detection of these crimes was also lower when compared to figures for 2022.
Three burglaries at night were reported last year and none were detected while in 2022 only one such case was registered and the burglar nabbed. Similarly, of the five other thefts registered last year, police could solve four while in 2022 all the four such cases registered were detected.
However, to the credit of police, both the chain snatchers reported last year were arrested while in 2022 only one of the two such cases registered were solved.
No case of any vehicle being stolen were registered last year though one such case was reported in 2022 and the culprit was nabbed. Incidentally one rioting case was registered at the police station last year which was due to a dispute between family members at Tollecanto in Velim.
No rioting cases was registered in 2022. In both the years, one case of mischief was registered by Cuncolim Police Station. However, in 2023 this case was registered following an order of the court.
