CURCHOREM: Taking cognisance of the report which appeared in O Heraldo ‘Incomplete desilting work in Curchorem irks public’, on Thursday, the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) began to clear the muck and the concrete drain cover slabs of Curchorem’s main drainage, which were left on the busy main road, near the Curchorem Railway Station.
The people of Curchorem were irked over the incomplete work of desilting of the main drainage, as people found it difficult to walk and ride on the road. The mess was created due to haphazard pre-monsoon desilting work which was stopped in between. Concrete cover slabs and muck were left all along the road which later spread developing bumps after every short distance.
Reacting to the news, CCMC Chairperson Dr Jasmine Braganza said that during the rains the area is flooding and therefore the entire main drainage is desilted.
“Most of the municipalities have over 60 labourers, but we have only 20 labourers at our disposal. Therefore, we took help from local social worker who volunteered to give us his earthmoving machinery to clean the drains. While cleaning one side of the gutter wall around 25 metres, part of the wall had collapsed, which we have requested the Water Resources Department (WRD) to repair it on priority basis. Hence, the work got little delayed” Braganza said.
