Curchorem fire personnel busy clearing uprooted trees

CURCHOREM: Curchorem fire personnel were on their feet for the third consecutive day as several more trees were uprooted in the village on Monday.

“Due to cyclonic winds at 1.30 pm, a huge banyan tree fell on the house of Irene Braganza at Muth-Rivona, causing damages of Rs 80,000. Luckily no one was injured, despite the entire family being inside,” said an official.
According to Curchorem Fire Station Officer (FSO) Dilip Gauns, they cleared many roads in Quepem and Sanguem that were blocked by uprooted trees. 
He said, “Besides Rivona, four huge trees fell on the road at Morpila, one tree fell at Kevona, a mango tree fell at Avedem, a walnut tree fell on a house at Tony Nagar, Sanvordem and another huge tree fell on the road at Condy, Quepem. All were cleared by evening and traffic resumed..”
