QUEPEM: Objecting to the sale of commodities planned by the Curchorem Lottery Club in the market, the members of Curchorem Market Association on Sunday claimed that such a move will affect their business and accused the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) of taking such a decision without taking them into confidence.
“Our business is suffering due illegal vendors who have encroached upon the footpath and the parking lot in Curchorem market,” the association complained and alleged that the municipality is allowing illegal business in the Curchorem market.
Association member Dyaneshwar Naik said “The Municipality should take action against non-Goan vendors, who are encroaching upon the footpath and parking lot which is against the law.”
Ravindra Laad, association secretary said, “During the pandemic period, Curchorem market was totally dead and now allowing outsiders in our market for business will affect our business to a great extent.”
Association treasurer Divakar Vasta, said, “We are easily allowing outsiders to do business anywhere in the Curchorem market and it’s sad that our local vegetable vendors are not supported by our municipality which is a sad thing. The municipality should allow and support local business to grow.”
Association president Rosha Pereira said, “A few years ago, the Curchorem Market Association adopted a resolution not to allow any sale as the market is small and if we allow for 10 to 12 days in the market area our business gets affected for three-four months”.
Lottery Club president Siddhesh Tari said, “Our main aim is to promote self-help group and local business and if market association also wants to join they are most welcome. We have already got permission from Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council.”
