CURCHOREM: Curchorem market remained shut throughout the day on Friday and most of the people stayed indoors to counter the threat from the highly contagious Coronavirus which has disrupted normal life in many parts and killed a number of people across the country.
All the establishments except banks, post offices, petrol pumps, medical stores, clinics and very few essential commodities shops like grocery, vegetables, and flour mills remained closed throughout the day.
According to local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, he had also requested the traders including their association members to voluntarily keep their establishments closed at least for three days till Monday. “Since the cases including mortality rate is increasing day by day, we all should take care and precautions ourselves first and as a precautionary measures I requested all the traders to voluntarily keep their establishments closed and I thanked all of them for accepting my request and also to people for staying indoors throughout the day.” said Cabral and requested to follow the same till Monday.
Parish Priest of Guardian Angel church, Fr. Vital Miranda welcomed and appreciate the decision of closing the shops in the market. “Voluntary closing of market, indeed a great thing for safety and welfare of each one of us. We must appreciate them and each one of us must try our utmost best in avoiding going to crowded places. This is how we can bring control over the pandemic.” said Fr. Miranda.
