CURCHOREM: The motorists and pedestrians, including students, are facing inconvenience and difficulties while driving or walking on the main road from railway over bridge to Curchorem railway station due to staking of mud along the side of the road.
The drainage which was constructed by the then panchayat of Curchorem around 45 years ago was repaired/reconstructed recently and the mud which was removed from the drains are staked on the side of the road without clearing it causing inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians. Now it is also seen that plants and creepers are growing on the staked mud.
When contacted, Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Felix Fernandes said that the work of repair/construction was done by the Water Resource Department (WRD). When contacted, Executive Engineer Halgatti of WRD Division XII expressed ignorance and said that he would find out whether his department has undertaken the work as he was on leave and asked to contact Junior Engineer Sandesh who informed that that area is looked after by Junior Engineer Pradip Naik.
According to Naik, the work of repairing/reconstructing of 300 meters drainage was undertaken by spending around Rs 28 lakh and it would completed soon. “I will ask the contractor to clear the mud from the road within 2 to 3 days,” Naik assured.
