CURCHOREM: Street vendors in Curchorem will be granted temporary permission to occupy the building passages in the market during the Sunday bazaar. The shopkeepers, too, will be allowed to keep their goods within one metre from their shop shutter.
This decision was taken by Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Councillors during the Council meeting with the Curchorem-Merchant Association (CMA), on Wednesday.
However, the municipal chairperson and the chief officer are opposed to granting such permissions.
Chairperson Hodarkar said that as per his personal opinion it is not right to allow the street vendors to occupy the passages as a separate vendor zone has been created near the GSUDA market to accommodate them as per the Supreme Court order.
“But since the majority council members agreed to allow them on one-month trial, I have to accept to their decision.  I told the Association that we will not be responsible if the old street vendors who were earlier shifted in the vendor zone raised objection for allowing new street vendors to seat in passages of the building and therefore asked them to take the responsibility to organise the market for one month and later we will take the necessary decision accordingly,” Hodarkar said.
