QUEPEM: Disgusted with the pathetic condition of the Goa to Belagavi road via Ramnagari, residents of Curchorem presented a memorandum to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Initiated by Aditya Dessai, the memorandum pointed out that this is a vital road between Goa and Belagavi and demanded its immediate repairs.
Business persons particularly traders, commuters and locals using this road have been facing innumerable difficulties for quite some time now due to huge potholes, uneven surface and overall crumbling infrastructure posing a grave danger to its users including pedestrians.
The memorandum signed by quite a number of people, detailed the hardships faced by people and urged the authorities to restore the road as soon as possible.
“We took the trouble to make the grievance of local people heard by the Union Government and are confident that Minister Nitin Gadkari will take up this road repairs on priority,” said Aditya Dessai.
Meanwhile, another delegation of villagers led by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar met Gadkari demanding resolution of the Bhoma bypass issue.
The villagers insisted on their demand for a bypass and said that the existing road stretch of the Ponda-Panjim highway should not be widened.
The third delegation was led by Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira over the issue of Pedem-Mapusa junction.
The delegation, consisting of Mapusa Councillors Tarak and Vikas Arolkar, Cosmos Lobo, Satyawan D Bhosale, Vishwas Bhobe, Prabhakar Gawas, Neha V Bhobe, Dnyaneshwar Vaigankar, Stephen Coutinho, Melwyn D’Souza, Johnny Lobo, Dileep Aldoncar and Armando Ferreira Alvares, gave representation to the union minister demanding flyover or underpass to ease the problems being faced at the junction.
“I thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for having supported our demand and informing us that this was a crucial issue needing attention,” Adv Ferreira said.
