Curchorem roads in disarray due to heavy showers

Underground cabling, sewerage works incomplete; potholes formed on roads pose life risk to commuters

QUEPEM: Heavy rains in Curchorem have led to flooding and creation of potholes on roads, especially in municipality area, disrupting life and posing safety risk for commuters. 

Due to the heavy rains in last two days in Curchorem, life has become miserable for people living in municipal areas where underground cable and sewerage work is going on. The roads are dug up everywhere and not a single work has been completed due to lack of planning. Consequently, the condition of roads has become dangerous for commuters.

Locals as well as travellers are expressing their angst against their administration by clicking photos and making videos of the roads and posting it on social media.

Local residents have accused the local administration that they had earlier warned the authorities of impending monsoon and told them to complete the work before the onset of rains. But they didn’t pay heed to them and the works weren’t completed in time. 

The condition of the road in Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council area has become dangerous and poses threat to the lives of motorists and pedestrians. 

The locals have demanded immediate action from the local authorities. Currently heavy rains have exposed the irresponsible work of the contractor in the area of  Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council and currently the situation in the areas of Cacora, Madhegal, Ambedkar Chowk, Bebqueghal, Khadi Wada have become dangerous and pose threat to people’s lives.

Curchorem Congress Block President Parag Sabnis said, “Currently heavy rains have exposed the substandard work of the contractor in the area of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council. Currently, the situation in the areas of Cacora, Madhegal, Ambedkar Chowk, Bebqueghal and Khadi Wada has become dangerous due to bad roads and there is an apprehension from the locals that this may cause accidents.”
