Curchorem SAG badminton court closed due to leakage

CURCHOREM: The badminton court at the SAG complex, Curchorem was closed on Monday, much to the sorrow of badminton lovers, including students who practiced there for inter-school tournaments.

Earlier, rainwater had started to fall on the court’s wooden floor after the asbestos sheets forming the roof of the hall were realigned. The problem became worse on Saturday evening, when cyclonic winds blew away a few of the sheets, allowing rainwater to pour into the hall. To avoid damage to the floor, the entire hall was covered with tarpaulin and closed to players.
Sources at the SAG complex informed that the roof had been improperly repaired some time back, due to which it started leaking. An official said, “The problem was brought to the notice of the authorities, but nothing was done.”
When contacted stadium manager and SAG assistant engineer Deepak Lotlikar said that he and his technical team had inspected the site and directed to replace the sheets immediately. He added, “It will be ready within a day if the rain does not hamper the work.”
