CURCHOREM: Local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Thursday informed that Curchorem Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF) at Cacora, Curchorem will be completed and commissioned by October or November.
He informed this after inspecting the construction activities at the project site at Cacora in the presence of Secretary of Science and Technology Tariq Thomas, Director of Science and Technology Levinson Martins, Incharge Engineer of Goa Waste Management Corporation Seshank Dessai, builder of the plant Sandip Asolkar, representative of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) for Technical Expert Committee Sandip Chodankar and Project In-Charge Shivaji Dessai.
Further, Cabral said that 100 tonnes plant estimated at Rs 173 crore will be completed by November or December and trial run of it would be conducted in the month of August.
“Municipalities or panchayats from Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Canacona Talukas have to segregate their garbage and keep it at their own respective premises which would be collected by four vehicles from this plant,” said Cabral.
He also said that some shortcomings from the Saligao plant had been taken care of and accordingly did the modification for this (Cacora) plant.
“Provision has been made to generate two to three kWh of gas based plus solar power from this plant everyday by using the factory’s entire rooftop,” informed Cabral.
Later, various saplings were planted in the premises by Cabral and other officials, who were present on the site.
It may be recalled that on December 13, 2019 a foundation stone was laid for this project by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and announced that SWMF will be named after former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar as “Manohar’s Dream Project for the Garbage Management”.
